Navona Handmade: A Collaborative Artisan Brand

Julia, Bethany, and Christine of Navona Handmade

Three friends from art school who decided to pursue our artistic passions as a group. We meet regularly to discuss, critique, and encourage each other.  Christine is our jeweler, Bethany is our potter, and Julia is our fiber artist.  For more information on our lives and work outside of Navona Handmade, check out our biographies below.

Take a short trip together twice a year to someplace new and inspiring, and create a collection of jewelry and home decor based on our experience. Yes, we built a business around taking vacations together, and we think we’re pretty clever. From these trips, we gather inspiration for the color palette, patterns and textures that guide each collection. After we come home, we take a few weeks to process, brainstorm and sketch. Then, we meet up and decide how we’re going create a cohesive collection that still represents each individual artist’s memory of our trip.

Bethany Amilkavich works as a librarian and a teacher.  She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ceramics and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science.  In her ceramic work she contrasts the functionality of pottery with a soft delicate aesthetic, creating pieces people can both admire and use. Julia Hoffman runs Knack Creative Studio in Danville, Pennsylvania. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers and Textiles and a Master of Science in Fashion Design.  Her work focuses on textile and fiber arts, combining materials to create housewares, wearables, and accessories. Christine Alaniz is a fine custom jeweler living with her husband and son in Pennsylvania.  She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM.  Her elegant style often evokes botanical petals, leaves and vines.
